Area: 32,300 ha (Natural Park) and 44,800 ha (Socioeconomic Influence Area).

Municipalities: 15 municipalities: Cepeda, El Cabaco, El Maillo, Herguijuela de la Sierra, La Alberca, Madronal, Miranda del Castanar, Mogarraz, Monforte de la Sierra, Monsagro, Nava de Francia, San Martin del Castanar, Serradilla del Arroyo, Sotoserrano and Villanueva del Conde.

Population centers: 16.

Population: 5,578 inhabitants.

The rich natural heritage is one of the main hallmarks of Sierra de Francia and Bejar, which earned them recognition as a Biosphere Reserve.

This distinction is supported by various environmental protection designations, among which Las Batuecas - Sierra de Francia Natural Park and the Candelario Natural Area stand out.

Natura 2000 Network

In addition, the territory is part of the Natura 2000 Network through different protection categories:

  • Special Protection Areas for Birds (SPA): Sierra de Candelario, Quilamas, Batuecas - Sierra de Francia and the Alagon River and its tributaries.

  • Sites of Community Importance (SCI): Sierra de Candelario, Quilamas, Batuecas - Sierra de Francia, the Alagon River and its tributaries, the Tormes River and its tributaries, and the Cuerpo de Hombre River valley.
